Over the years, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company has indeed proven themselves as one of the successful and top cigarette manufacturer in the world market as they produce top selling and best quality cigarettes. One of their greatest successes is the Camel cigarettes that was manufactured in Winston, North Carolina in United States and has been introduced by Richard Joshua Reynolds, founder of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company to the American public in 1913. The very first style of Camel cigarette that has been out in the market was the soft pack of the regular, unfiltered variety. Cigarette consumers now have more options with regards to its variety and taste but this has been Camel cigarettes historical style that made them famous.
Camel cigarettes are made from Turkish tobacco which has an “exotic” flavor and so they came out with the camel symbol. They were originally blended to have a milder taste compare to other competing brands those times that could be much harsher. Its mild and smooth taste was able to catch a large number of cigarette consumers in United States. However, Camel cigarettes now contain a blend of Turkish and Virginia tobacco. Their advance promotion with a unique marketing style could also be one of the reasons why Camel cigarettes dominated in cigarette manufacturing industry in a snap. They had the advertising campaign which included the “teasers” that stated that “the Camels are coming” which was derived from a play on the old Scottish folk song, "The Campbell’s Are Coming". They also use another advertising strategy with their “Old Joe”, a Circus camel who was driven through town to distribute free cigarettes that let people to have a free taste before they actually buy them. “Old Joe” was also used as a model for their Camel packaging which can be seen on the front of every cartoon styled Camel cigarette pack. However, in today’s world market, Camel uses "I'd walk a mile for a Camel!" as their catch-phrase slogan. Camel cigarettes also reach its peak of popularity as it has also been a trademark of a lot of popular cigarette smoker personalities like the news broadcaster Edward R. Murrow, who smoked up to four packs of Camel regulars every day. Through the years, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company didn’t stop in improving Camel cigarettes’ quality. They come out with different varieties and taste to provide genuine smoking pleasure to their millions of consumers. |
